TAURAS-FENIX Furnishes Novgorod Confectionery Factory with Packaging Equipment

Novgorod Confectionery Factory was founded in 1991. The Company occupies the area over 4000 sq. m of a former radio factory, which carried out Government orders for civil and defence industries. For more than 10 years the production was a part of the well-known Nevskie Berega company and specialised exclusively in the production of fondant sweets in various packaging formats.

In 2010 the factory separated having established a separate legal entity and focused its attention on the development of confectionery products assortment group. New lines of confectionery products including jelly sweets, soufflé sweets, soft caramel sweets, with nougat, dried fruits in glazes and flour confectionery for children (cookies and biscuits with filling) were developed on the existing facilities of Novgorod factory. The resource base of the enterprise allows you to optimise technological processes and produce the highest quality products: our own laboratory and technological service prepare confectionery according to the authors’ recipes and in accordance with high European standards based on the principles of the HASPP quality control system, GOSTs (state quality standards) and regulations governing the food industry. Today in the assortment line of the factory there are 8 product groups, each group includes about 5-6 confectionery articles. Approximate annual volume is more than 2000 tons of products.

The Company manufactures products in various packaging types: candies in boxes, in packages, by weight products, as well as individual gift sets for corporate customer orders. The factory’s CEO Sergey Tarasenko explained: “We cooperate with a number of Russian companies that produce colour printed film for our products. We work with both small companies from our region and large companies capable of supplying large volumes of packaging”.

The main types of raw materials used are purchased by the enterprise from Russian suppliers. The owner of the Company explained that the main ingredients of the products are: sugar, confectionery glaze, syrup, condensed milk and other raw materials. The factory produces tasty and quality products because they undergo strict control at different stages of manufacture, starting with the selection of suppliers and input control of raw materials as well as the annual audit of the company by recognized audit companies for compliance with HACCP requirements and safety requirements of the international standard FSSC 22000.

Confectionery products made in Veliky Novgorod are sold throughout Russia in the federal retail chains X5 Retail Group, Magnit, Diksi, Polushka; in the Intertorg chain, which includes well-known Semya and SPAR stores. Products are sold in local retail chains, for example, 7 steps stores in St. Petersburg, as well as in the Urals. The factory's products are exported to the neighbouring countries and the CIS.

The Novgorod factory is equipped with high-tech Russian-made packaging equipment. Most of the entire technology, 95%, is occupied by the filling and packaging machines of the TAURAS-FENIX brand. Over the past 9 years a candy factory has equipped production sites with eight machines of the machinery works, which facilities are located in St. Petersburg.

TAURAS-FENIX equipped the confectionery factory gradually. At first, one PITPACK vertical machine was shipped, which allows you to package of sweets by weight into a common soft three-seam bag. Filling machine kinematic capacity reaches 45 packs per minute. Later a similar model of advanced configuration was delivered. Further, to solve the tasks of the enterprise’s production automation four more LINEPACK linear packing machines were delivered for single-piece individual packaging of confectionery products in the three-seam Flow-Pack type bags.

Among the last delivered to the factory was a modern high-speed packaging system designed for the automatic feeding of confectionery products and their further packaging in polypropylene film, which consists of two horizontal LINEPACK packaging machines, united by a single system of automatic product feeding from the Customer’s production line. The complete line’s maximum kinematic performance reaches 480 packs per minute. The complete packaging line constructively consists of 2 horizontal automatic machines LINEPACK F3M, an input conveyor with motorised product alignment guides, a rotary conveyor for product moving, quality control module for clotted products rejecting and finally an integrated system for products moving and auto-placement on the packaging module. It should be emphasised that the actual performance of this solution will not exceed the performance indicators of the prior to this solution equipment in the overall technological cycle of the machine. Therefore, TAURAS-FENIX enterprise stands for an integrated approach to the production equipment and recommends its customers to install multi-component packaging lines that will help maintain speed at each stage of the technological process: from the product manufacture to its packaging and delivery to shipment.

“We work extensively with the Company. Up to this point the products were packed by hand and we coped with this process on our own. But when the question arose about our expansion into the retail market, we began to actively study the packaging equipment suppliers from Europe and Russia. For several factors we decided in favour of TAURAS-FENIX. Over the years of partnership we have not been disappointed in our decision: the equipment is working properly and they provide good service”, commented the CEO of the Novgorod factory.

Factory’s task plans are full production automation. The Company plans to purchase another complete line for packaging products into individual packs with its subsequent group packaging. But the factory limited areas act as a deterrent, so the Company will soon move to a three-shift operation with the current staff of 160 employees. “We will provide even more jobs for people,” underlined Sergey.
